The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment, to various emergency situations, such as structure fires, aircraft crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous materials spills, auto accidents, trench collapses, and confined space entrapment.
**Qualifications:**
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while assisting in dispatching or scheduling emergency police, fire and medical services to the public; by answering emergency 911 calls; and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment which includes police, firefighting, hazardous materials, wild land firefighting, technical rescue and ambulance services. Knowledge of communications operations in order to effectively gather information and prepare reports and statistical data accurately and quickly. 2. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data. 3. Knowledge of emergency response rules, procedures and operations to resolve a wide range of problems to include location and availability of emergency apparatus, and the type of equipment needed for an emergency. 4. Ability to read maps which reflect such systems as electrical, water, gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and pollution control. 5. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. 6. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ADDITIONAL SIGNIGICANT FACTS PERTAINING TO THIS POSITION: Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a current EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatcher) and CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification, including initial and follow-on certification. Incumbent must participate in recurrent proficiency training, as directed. This position is designated as a key position JAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
